Safin retires

Former No.1 played his last game yesterday. Marat Safin ended his 12-year tennis career after he lost to Juan Martin del Potro in the second round of the Paris Masters.

He won two Grand Slam titles and a Davis Cup. Although he was known for his emotional outbursts, he would be rather be remembered by the hard work he put in.

Side note-I will miss this man terribly.

Sister Act

Serena Williams beat her sister Venus in the finals of the WTA Championships in Doha on Sunday. This is the second straight year that the sisters have met in the finals. While much has been written about whether or not the sisters still have it, after Sunday, I am sure that many of the those in the majority can now change their opinions. Oh and by the way, Serena broke the record for prize money in a single season by winning 6.5 million dollars this season. Well Done Young Lady!

China Open

It was not a good day for U.S. players as Rafael Nadal beat James Blake 7-5, 6-7 (4), 6-3 and Serena Williams was defeated by Nadia Petrova 6-4, 3-6, 7-6.

Yes for those of you who are too young to know, I did just use a Welcome Back Kotter reference as my title! She’s back. The I want to be retired and raise a family only to unretire and come back and win majors merry go round has claimed another victim, JH2. After seeing her countrywoman Kim Clijsters (in the red) come back from out of nowhere to win this years US Open, Justine Henin wants to again resume her career of beating her opponents to death on the tennis court. I SAY….LET’S GET TO IT THEN! Tennis definitely missed you JH2!
